About

Indiepop Atlas is a place for you to learn about what's new in indiepop. You can check the titular atlas for information on the bands who are active in your area, or in areas you may want to visit. We'll also have regular album reviews, so you can keep up with what's going on in the greater indiepop world. Whether you've been part of the scene since Beat Happening's debut, or recently heard Belle and Sebastian for the first time, we hope you find what you're looking for here!

If you're a fan of (or a member of!) a band that isn't yet in the Atlas, please send a quick email to indiepopatlas@gmail.com with a bit of information about them and I'll add them in as soon as possible! You can also send me an email if you're just a fan of the site, and either want to say nice things or recommend me some album that you've been obsessed with lately.

Indiepop Atlas is pretty much just the work of one woman, so obviously, you should not take any opinions here as those of the wider indiepop world. Although I typically try to give a neutral description of how a particular band sounds, I'm not immune to editorializing a bit (whether because I love the band or because I don't particularly care for them). So if you're reading about a band and I'm accidentally making it sound like they're not worth your time, just remember that I'm wrong about things all the time! Generally, I'm not a huge fan of jangle pop or power pop, so descriptions of those types of bands typically are going to end up less effusive than those of punkier bands, or electronic bands, or (especially) noise pop bands. In the About page, I've got some links to other indiepop blogs if you find yourself needing a second opinion.

What to Expect for your Submissions

A lot of the submissions I get are, understandably enough, self-submissions in hopes of getting some press, so now that I'm doing a better job of reading/responding to emails, I feel I'd better give you a realistic idea of what to expect from a submission to Indiepop Atlas. Basically, I'll listen to a handful of songs to give me a general grasp on how your band sounds, and I'll write up a quick profile page with a brief description, a discography, and links to your social media/Bandcamp so readers can find you. I likely will not be writing a review of the specific album/EP/single which you're emailing me about, because any inspiration I get for reviews tends to be pretty arbitrary (see: the solid chunk of reviews which are devoted to long-forgotten EPs).

Sarah's Song of the Month!

I reviewed this album right at the end of January, and this song was my favorite one on there! Actually, I liked it enough that I'm gonna highlight it to all y'all for an entire month!

What's Sarah Listening To?

Here's some things I've been listening to a lot lately, depending on the week some will be indiepop, some not. This section is going to get updated whenever I feel like it (though considering I listen to the same few albums every day for weeks, it might be a while until next time!
