I got introduced to this band through having already been into Linton's previous band, Henry's Dress. The noise gets toned down a bit here compared to that, and the songs have more complicated arrangements which owe a bit to 60s Brill Building pop or sometimes Belle and Sebastian. I like both those things, but for some reason it took me a while to really come to like the Aislers Set's version of it. But a little bit ago, it just suddenly hit me that The Last Match is the mirror image to the Jesus and Mary Chain's Psychocandy; both succeed by combining Brill Building pop with a ton of feedback, but this album is a pop album with noise compared to the latter's noise album with pop. I've not yet gotten to the point of reevaluating their other two albums so far, but hopefully they'll similarly be able to break through to me in the future!
