Most indiepop bands, especially the ones active today, tend to have a pretty insular appeal. That couldn't be any further from true for Alvvays, who are one of the absolute most beloved bands for basically every indie rock nerd I know. They don't really do anything particularly novel with their sound; they're a jangle pop band who isn't afraid to get a bit fuzzy, but the appeal comes from the fact that their songs work incredibly well as pop. The thing about them is this: their second and third albums have had two of the biggest hype cycles that I can really remember for any indie albums. What's more, the general consensus has tended to be that they actually surpassed the massive amounts of hype put upon them. If you're reading this site and looking to get into indiepop, this band would be a really good place to start.
