They're a band who, from what I can tell, seem to have taken a lot of influence from the Shaggs. So that means when I say that the Bartlebees show a lack of instrumental aptitude rivalling that of the earliest Beat Happening recordings, you know that I mean it with love! I know they were a big deal in the development of indiepop in Germany, and they had some pretty strong connections around the world, but I'm not as familiar with them as I'd like to be (just a couple listens to their self-titled album). Basically, they sound a bit like early Beat Happening, though with a slightly less basic sound, and with less of the darkness that I tend to hear on Beat Happening's work.
