The Beach Bullies end up falling in an area that feels roughly halfway between Young Marble Giants and Beat Happening to me. On the one hand, they've got the drum machine, on the other, they've got goofy pop songs about stuff like how bad the food is on British Rail. Smith's other band, The Containers, also recorded a bunch of the songs here in a less minimal way (though they weren't released until well after the fact), in case you want the British Rail songs but don't want the minimalism.
