Dolly Mixture have long been cult favorites within indiepop, with their album Demonstration Tapes showing a progression from rough Television Personalities by way of the Brill Building mod revival to something a bit more sophisticated and not too far removed from indiepop bands for like the next 20-25 years after them. Personally, I have a preference for those earlier songs, both because I find them catchier and because there's not as much out there that sounds like them. Unfortunately for us, my understanding is that their label wanted them to do more straightforward girl group songs (updated for the early 80s), so their career never really was able to take off like it feels like it should have.
