Flipper's Guitar are ground zero for Japanese indiepop, and honestly it's pretty shameful that I've never really listened to them all that much (only their debut album, and that just a couple times). Based on what I know about them, they sound a bit like halfway between jangle pop and acoustic rock (a blend which many call "neo-acoustic"), and maybe a bit jazzier than average. Sort of like Aztec Camera, or maybe even like early Blueboy (though Flipper's Guitar pre-dates the latter). It's not a style of indiepop that's ever done much for me, but pretty much everyone I know loves them, so it's pretty apparent that it's me that's the problem here.
