Despite being from Indianapolis, my understanding is that Good Flying Birds are somewhat adjacent to the Chicago scene that produced Horsegirl and Lifeguard? Anyway, despite their former name of "Talulah God", they really don't sound all that much like Talulah Gosh? If you had to pick one artist to compare them to, you'd probably take the easy way out and say Guided By Voices, one of whose songs gives the band their current name. They're a bit too internetty for my tastes (just take a look at their overloaded Neocities page or the constant meme-y interludes on their debut (especially the original version of it)), but they do a pretty good job with the music. Especially if you get a chance to see them live, I'd recommend it; they're way better (i.e., noisier) that way, plus none of the awful interludes! They even have two tambourines; one for fast songs and one for slow songs!
