From reading interviews online, I've gathered that My Favorite is a band that aspired to be indiepop in spirit, but not in form. That is, they were inspired by the politics behind the early indiepop bands (particularly from Olympia), but not necessarily the music itself. Instead, they chose to take after all those synthpop and New Romantic type groups of the early 1980s (in fact, it was listening to Ultravox that reminded me to do this writeup). I tend to agree with a lot of their criticisms of indiepop, actually, though I don't particularly feel like they stick out as un-indiepop in form, honestly? Though that's obviously because I'm listening like someone from 2026 instead of someone from 1996, I guess.
