Sally Shapiro isn't an artist that I'm super familiar with; I've only ever heard Disco Romance. But that was enough for me to make a crucial discovery: other genres are just as capable of being indiepop as the typical guitar/singer/drums/bass combination that we've all mostly come to expect out of capital-I Indiepop. That's not Sally Shapiro at all, the music you'll hear in her albums is pretty much just disco. But when you take it as a whole, the combination of thin synths and a somewhat wavering voice, and especially the lovelorn lyrics, adds up to something extremely akin to indiepop. If you're a purist for the genre, you've probably already hit the back button on your browser. But if you're not, and you're interested to see how indiepop would have turned out from different origins, Sally Shapiro is an artist you're probably going to get a lot out of.
