Despite liking it in theory, I usually end up feeling like shoegaze bands focus too much on what they think they should sound like and not enough on making a decent song. That's not really the case with Seablite, who are much more akin to the early days of shoegaze, before Loveless settled the whole question of what the genre is "supposed" to sound like. Instead, Seablite sound more like a jangle pop band that got their hands on a distortion pedal (and maybe a phaser, even), with the melodies of their songs being a much bigger draw than their ability to combine effect pedals.
