The Umbrellas are, at least from the perspective of someone on the other side of the country, the main flagbearers of the San Francisco indiepop scene. They've always had the kind of sound that you swear you've heard before, while listening to some jangly British band from 1987 or so, but you can't quite put a name on it. Typically that type of unashamed revivalism doesn't really grab me, but even my cynical heart can't deny that "City Song" is an all-time great indiepop song, so I can't give up on them just yet.
